Fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with friends and colleagues is what motivates Stuart and Takeshi to go the extra mile for MS!
Stuart and Takeshi are two MS Gong Ride virtual participants, taking part in this year’s event from Singapore. We interviewed Stuart and Takeshi to find out how they heard about the MS event and what motivated them to take part.
Stuart said, “I have ridden the Sydney to Wollongong race most years from 1990, however since in Singapore from 2012 I have not been able to get back to join. MS is a fantastic cause, and with COVID restricting many, it has opened great opportunities to create virtual events, and raise money for a great cause.”
Takeshi only recently moved to Singapore and new to riding, “I moved in Singapore earlier this year and just started riding a bike 4 weeks ago. I completed an online class in which I was taught constant exercise and trying totally new thing are both good contributors to our well-being. Then I found the bike ride can hit both objectives with one stone, and it’s a very good individual activity under COVID restrictions. Lenovo Australia team is a regular member of MS Gong and they invited us to join this time!”
Together, they will complete our ride by arranging a Singapore RTI (Around the Island) route to coordinate times and maximise distance. Fitness, fresh air and camaraderie with friends and colleagues is what motivates Stuart and Takeshi to go the extra mile for MS!
Takeshi says, “Singapore is simply a great place for road bike – well maintained wide roads, some bike-dedicated lanes, year-round warm weather, etc.”
We asked them about their fundraising strategy: their tactic, go big or go home!
Takeshi said, “We are seeking maximum sponsorship dollars! We ask for donations shamelessly by posting to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Strava) for public as well as sending short messages to closer friends”
Stuart said, “While we enjoy riding together, we may extend the invitation to other cyclists as we have very big bike-riding community in Singapore.”
Well done Stuart and Takeshi, you’re amazing!
