Claire and Cellina ride to fight MS!
This November, we are taking part in the 2023 MS Gong Ride!
Since 1981, this iconic ride from Sydney to Wollongong (82km) has raised funds to help fight MS and we're now part of this incredible legacy.
The ‘Biking Birdies’ team is made up of Claire and Cellina, two friends who work together at HMAS Albatross and are new to the cycling world.
We have decided to take on this challenge, as this cause hits close to home in many ways. We would like to raise awareness and funds to help people with multiple sclerosis receive the vital support, treatments, and services to help them live well at home, remain connected to work, and be part of the community.
What is MS?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and often debilitating disease which attacks the central nervous system. It is the most common neurological disease in young adults and often attacks people at the time of their lives when they are planning families and building a career.
MS is often diagnosed between the ages of 20 to 40 and, in Australia, affects three times more women than men.
Every person’s MS varies, but some of the symptoms are not being able to see properly (or at all), loss of balance, ability to walk, pins and needles, and chronic pain.
As yet, there is no cure.
How can YOU make a difference?
The funds that we raise from your donations, ensure that people living with multiple sclerosis get the vital support they need to meet their goals and live well, and ensure that no one has to face MS alone.
This includes support in referral advice and information, everyday tips and tricks, education, emotional support, wellbeing support, symptom management, opportunities to connect with others, employment support, living arrangement support, individual assessment and NDIS and My Aged Care support.
