2023 MS Gong Ride

Fundraising Rank: 77

I'M RIDING 82KM THIS OCTOBER
THE DISTANCE FROM
Sydney TO WOLLONGONG

I'm taking the Challenge to fight MS!

This November, I am taking part in the 2023 MS Gong Ride!

Since 1981, this iconic ride has raised funds to help fight MS and I'm now part of this incredible legacy.

Why am I fundraising?

It’s quite staggering to think that multiple sclerosis affects more young people than any other chronic neurological condition. The average age of diagnosis is 30 years, and there is no known cure.

Every person’s MS varies, but some of the symptoms are not being able to see properly (or at all), loss of balance, ability to walk, pins and needles, and chronic pain.

Your support will help people with multiple sclerosis receive the vital support, treatments, and services to help them live well at home, remain connected to work, and be part of the community.

Thank you again for your support!

Bicycle now serviced and taking it out on a test ride to ensure all is in working order… So glad I have company to join me! “Sole” Mates! (Our running team name… I guess it expands into other disciplines).

Time to B Positive

Tuesday 17th Oct
Giving back and making a difference can come in different forms. I believe in Karma and try and give back where I can - I am here on this earth to make a difference no matter how big or small.

Puppy Uber service!

Tuesday 17th Oct
Thank goodness for daylight savings - makes those evening rides “a tad” easier… Would be better without the 8kg pup in the carrier. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Gotta do what you gotta do!

3 weeks to go!

Tuesday 17th Oct
Trying to get as much kilometres in before ride day!

Transition Run to Ride

Tuesday 12th Sep
Been tapering off my running races the past few weeks with a half marathon this Sunday. Putting my Helmet on and transitioning training on cycling 🚴🏽‍♀️

It’s all about the “base”

Saturday 29th Jul
Meghan Trainor wrote a song called “All about that Bass” and she wasn’t wrong. //I’m learning… Building a base is building a foundation to which your body can perform by enhancing your aerobic fitness (we can deep dive into this - but we’ll keep things light for now). So with November being a few months away - it gives me time to get the kms in, time on the saddle, and just building up my base steady riding in a zone 2 heart rate and training zone. Luckily this is the “fun” stage. Cycling comes with its own “cycling culture” which includes fuelling the body to avoid a “Bonk” during a ride. Fuelling gives my ride something to look forward to… from coffees, pastries, sweets, and other carbohydrates to fuel energy to the body whilst riding - cafè culture - here I come!! Now just to be clear… let me ALSO give a Definition of a “Bonk”…. “It is The condition in which your muscles run out of fuel, with profound effects on performance and well-being”… not the latter you were thinking in your head *wink*. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend; and I’ll continue eating my well deserved apple pie. Chrissy x

The calm before the storm

Monday 24th Jul
Moments before the rain caught up to us… despite trying to out ride it - it was actually liberating! Hoping that’s how I’ll feel after announcing this ride on social media. No turning back - time to embrace what’s coming!

… And it begins!

Sunday 23rd Jul
Ask me 12 months ago and I would have told you I haven’t ridden a bike since I was 12 years old.

Fast forward to today and now I’ve registered for the MS Sydney to Wollongong 82km cycle on the 5th November 2023.

Perhaps I don’t take challenges lightly - and with my challenger not being able to make the dates - I’ve decided to do it anyway!

Cheers to me! Hope you are cheering me on from your corner wherever you are in the world - or better yet if you can share or sponsor the bare minimum I would be so appreciative!

Let’s go!!!
