I'm taking the Challenge to fight MS!

I am taking part in the MS Gong Ride Virtual, the Ride to Fight MS.

Unfortunately the annual Sydney to the Gong ride was cancelled this year due to COVID.  That makes for a big hole in the MS Society's annual fund raising.  They have come up with an alternative: a virtual ride, where each rider picks their own target distance.  Appropriately, I've picked 234kms - the distance from Canberra to Wollongong.  Fortunately I get all of October to complete the distance!

I start my challenge on 1 October. You will be able to see my progress here on my page and support me along the way!

Last year, I managed to raise over $1,000.  With all that's going on, I've set my sights a bit lower this year, with an initial target of $500

Thanks to your generous support, the funds we raise will allow people living with multiple sclerosis to access vital MS support services. Support to keep Aussies living with multiple sclerosis connected to others and connected to the information and services they need to live their best life.

Thank you again for your support!

Ride Goal Achieved!!

Friday 30th Oct
Today I achieved my distance goal - 234km - the distance from Canberra to Wollongong.  Truthfully, it should have been easy enough, but a week away at the start of the month and some wet weather towards the end of the month made it a bit more challenging.

My team, Team Teradata, was planning a virtual Sydney to the 'Gong ride yesterday by riding 80 km around Centennial Park.  Unfortunately we had to postpone to next week because of the weather.   While no longer in October, I'll definitely be claiming those k's.

Getting close to my km goal

Thursday 22nd Oct
Today's ride took me over 200km - so not far to go now.  I hope there's a fine day between now and the end of the month.

Due to some very generous donations, my fund raising has passed $1000, so, I've gone for broke and reset my target to $2000.   I'm not sure I have any friends left, but if you haven't already donated please consider helping the MS Society out.  Last year they raised over $3m from the Gong Ride and I think they will be a long way short of that this year.

Saturday 17th Oct
Good ride this morning - but I didn't enjoy the northerly headwind on the way home.

First ride

Monday 12th Oct
Back from a week away, I've started on my target kilometres.  40KM this morning.

New goal

Thursday 8th Oct
Thanks to the generosity of my early sponsors, I’ve shot past my initial $500 target.  So, I’ve updated my target to $1000!

Great start - without much riding!

Thursday 8th Oct
Thanks to all who have already donated!  Denelda and I have been in the mid-north coast for a few days (which has been very pleasant).  This means that the bike riding side of this 'deal' hasn't even begun yet.  We will be home on Friday, so next week should see the kms start to rise.

Thank you to my Sponsors
