TEAM CAPTAIN RESOURCES

So, you’re the captain now. You’ve decided to lead a team of legends on the MS Gong Ride and now everyone’s coming to you for information they can find on the website.

Never fear, the MS Gong Ride team is here to help you help them.  You can bookmark this page for all things captain's tips, tricks, and resources.

Because you're not just riding—you're helping change the future for Australians living with MS. Now let’s make it epic.

How to build the ultimate dream team!

Got a group of regular cycling mates? Easy recruits, basically sitting ducks. Chuck the MS Gong Ride website in the group chat and let them know that they’re in for the ride of a lifetime.

Cycle solo but ready to do some persuading? Share your page with gym buds, work crew, in-laws, anyone who you know is ready and able to take on the Ride to Fight MS.

When in doubt, just make sure to share your team page with the handy ‘Join Us’ button on it to absolutely everyone – you never know who will resonate with this cause.

Once you have your team members, now it’s all about keeping them: involved, encouraged and in line!

If you’re a new team captain, never underestimate the power of a punny team name (“Wheelie Good Riders” anyone?).

Keep the energy high in the team group chat, be sure to celebrate the small wins - like your team member finally learning how to use cleats!

Fundraising can be hard to encourage if you don’t lead by example, make one of your first steps donating to your own page. It’s like buying the first round—others will follow.

Some helpful things to post on your social media along with your fundraising page:

Training pics! The caption doesn’t have to be an essay: “Training is hard. MS is harder. Help me help them.” Keep it simple.

It is helpful to share your “why;” the reason supporting Australians living with MS means a lot to you. People give to people, not just a fundraising link.

Some of our resources! We have a whole resources page to help you and your team spruce up any social post.

Captains Tip: Encourage your team to personalise their pages—a profile picture here, a blog post there really works.

Here’s a couple out-of-the-box ideas for fundraising in your community:

Shhh: Set up a swear jar at work or home

Training challenge: “Donate and I’ll tackle hills twice”

Host a bake sale (burn the cookies = charge extra)

Team raffle: Winner gets out of hill repeats

A pre or post MS Gong Ride fundraising event is a great way to get the team excited and involve your friends, family or work colleagues, even if they aren't cyclists or able to join you.

Don’t forget to wave our awesome fundraising rewards in team members faces! Encourage them to aim for new riding gear so you can all look like fundraising legends.
