Meet Kim and the Soft Cogs

23 JULY 2025

Meet Kim and the Soft Cogs, this is their 20th year riding in the MS Gong Ride!

A dedicated team since their first ride in 2006, the Soft Cogs was formed by captain Kim and his friend, the late Tony Campbell. It started where all great plans are made, the local bar! Kim and Tony were in the mining industry and wanted to start a group activity in the cycling space. They got support from their General Manager at the time, who still rides with them to this day, and boom, the Soft Cogs Inc was born.

At first, supporting people living with multiple sclerosis was an added bonus in taking part in the MS Gong Ride. But now Kim and the Soft Cogs knowledge of MS, and how their fundraising makes a huge impact is a big reason for their participation each year.

I’ve made some great mates who live with multiple sclerosis themselves or live with others who do. It’s a chief reason why we keep coming back. A little bit of effort on our behalf can help so many – so why not?

The Soft Cogs are consistently one of the MS Gong Ride’s top fundraising teams, having raised over $1.5 Million since 2006. Their dedication to raising funds for MS support and services spanning 20 years is incredible!

I was blown away by how much we could fundraise with two easy tips: Make it easy and make it fun. Then, riders bring their friends and family to join in, and more riders means more funds raised!

Ways to make it easy for your friends and family to support you include linking your fundraising page in all your emails, social media posts, and chat messages, don’t make them search for you. To make fundraising fun, why not host a fundraising event? From raffle tickets to a gala ball, get your whole community involved and put the ‘fun’ in fundraising.

As a team who is riding for their 20th MS Gong Ride, Kim is most looking forward to the whole atmosphere of the day, from start to finish!

  • The camaraderie of bringing the team together after months of campaigning.
  • The scenic and well organized and supported ride.
  • The finish site at the end, saying “Cheers to another great year”.
  • I’m looking forward to punching in another $100k in 2025

We can’t wait to celebrate with you and the Soft Cogs at the finish line, Kim! A huge congratulations and well done for celebrating your 20th ride in 2025.

If you’re considering joining us this year, here’s a message from the Kim and the Soft Cogs:

Give it a crack. Incredible effort has gone in to keep this event going (now over 40 years running). Don’t just participate, send one email out with your fundraising page link and you’ll be surprised how much support you’ll get (or just sponsor yourself!).
We have the privilege of working bodies and the ability to do things that many others can’t. Make your ride worth it.
