I'm taking the Challenge to fight MS!

On November 1st, I am taking part in the 2026 MS Gong Ride! It is the 45th year of riders coming together to support people living with MS and other neurological conditions.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common neurological disease in young adults. Your support will help people receive the vital support, treatments, and services to help them live well at home, remain connected to work, and be part of the community.

Did you know it’s not just MS?

MS Plus, organisers of this ride, fundraise and support not just MS but many other neurodegenerative, neuromuscular, brain, spine, and peripheral nerve conditions. Specific conditions include dementia, epilepsy, stroke, MND, traumatic brain injury, plus many more. 

Earlier this year a cousin died from Parkinson’s disease. Max was a king at euchre and other card games, and always had time for stories. He continued to work on projects at his local men’s shed even as the condition got worse. 

I ride for him. 

Bike workshop and training

Wednesday 30th Sep
Getting MSGong ready: This week has seen me going to a free bike maintenance workshop hosted by Newcastle City Council and my first practice ride in a long time. 

Workshop: I learnt to repair a puncture (better than what I had been doing 🤭), do an ‘M check’ of the bike, and even got gifted an inner tube, tyre levers, and a puncture kit! 

Ride: The practice cycle this morning was down the Fernleigh track with a struggle back up the hill to return. Such a beautiful ride near the channel, lake, and wetlands, but definitely need to improve my bike fitness for hill climbs.
